During the 7-Day Protection Period.... Empty During the 7-Day Protection Period....

Post  Apruchian Wed Jul 29, 2009 10:59 am

Hello,

I've had a few new members ask me about what they should do during the initial 7-day protection period. There are several things that need to be done and depending on whom you ask the list may vary, but here are the basic things that you need to do.

1. Complete the Quests. You need to complete as many of the quests as possible during this time. They will help you gain rank and title, build your city, learn the basics of playing in Evony, and get you connected.

2. Build Your City. Increase your population and resources, but make sure you maintain a balance. If you mouse over your "Population" icon you'll see several statistics that are presented (i.e., Current Population, Population Limit, Labour Force, Idle Population, Population Trend). You should try to maintain a 10-15% unemployment rate while in this protection period (calculated by: Idle Population divided by Current Population). You do this by balancing your cottages with jobs produced by resources and your military. You should also higher a hero with a high Politics attribute (50-60 minimum), which will help in maintaining a good population level and a high resource output.

3. Research, Research, Research. Build your Academy and research as much as you can. The standard recommendation is that you need to get to the level of being able to research "Archery" and "Horse Back Riding" as soon as possible. Increase your "Informatics" ASAP, also as this gives you the ability to scout higher level targets and get more information from your scouting efforts. All of this being said you will need to attain a minimum level on pretty much every topic in order to build different items. Other research topics have value, but the aforementioned topics have immediate value.

4. Defenses. You need to build your walls and defenses as quickly as possible. Your walls take a substantial amount of time and resources to build and you will probably only be able to get them to a certain level during this time. That's OK though... just build them as quickly and as high as possible. When you click on your walls, you will also see that you can build various defenses. Some of these will require some research in order to be able to build them; hence, the reason for item 3, above. Smile Build these to a substantial level to slow down, stop, and/or kill enemy troops.

5. Offenses. You need to build your Barracks during this time frame. The rule of thumb within our Alliance seems to be a minimum of five to a max of whatever amount you need to pump out troops. You also want to build your levels as quickly as possible in order to be able to build Archers and Balista. These are the backbone of your raiding and plundering runs (see articles in the Guides Section of this Forum). The bottom line is that you will need thousands of troops... maybe even millions ultimately. You also need to ensure that your are able to provide enough food to support these troops. One other thing - your troops have a life span so you will loose some to attrition as time goes on. You will be constantly be building troops. Alliance Members Gareth the Great and Kengi have a lot of insight with regard to this topic. Feel free to read their articles in this forum and pick their brains... (sorry GtG and Kengi Smile ).

6. Higher Heros. As previously mentioned, your first hero should have a high Politics attribute. Make sure that you appoint this hero as Mayor via the Feeding Hall. You will also need to higher other heros with high Attack and high Intelligence respectively. See this article ("Juggling Mayors") by Kengi on more specifics on this topic.

7. Increase in Rank and Title. You will do this by following the quests. The higher you go, the more towns you will be able to own. Each time you increase it will cost you Gold and other items (usually medals of various types), but it is worth it. Make sure that you click the yellow present icon in the upper left hand corner of the screen to claim your "Newbies Package" and "Package for Lords" as these have many useful items in them, including the medals necessary to attain some of the first couple of Ranks/Titles.

8. CAUTION: Do NOT increase your Town Hall past level 4 until after the protection period is up! This will end your protection period prematurely.

9. Read and Ask. Read the Articles in these Forums. There is a plethora of knowledge and that amount of information is increasing at a rapid pace. Finally, if you have questions, do not hesitate to ask. We are all here to help our fellow NonYouth Alliance Members.

Please note that this is by no means an all inclusive list but a starting point. You will find different ways to do things as you get more experienced and more involved. When you do find those better ways. please share them with the rest of us.

Enjoy!
